Things to Carry During Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

Q. What are the items I should carry for the Kailash Yatra?

We provide a detailed list of what you should carry for the Kailash Yatra, which includes clothing, medical kits, food items, toiletries, miscellaneous items, etc. For a detailed packaging list for your Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, ask our experts at +91 85100 07751.

Generally, travellers do not feel a need for medications during the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Yet, basic and commonly used medicines should be carried along, like for Blood Pressure, Diabetes, asthma, etc. Also, it is suggested to carry medications prescribed by your doctor in case you have an allergy. Timely before the yatra date, all yatris are provided with a list of things to carry for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra; however, keep the medicines mentioned below:

  • Diamox
  • Pain killer
  • Paracetamol
  • Multivitamin pills
  • Antibiotics
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Portable oxygen cylinders (it may help during parikrama at low oxygen levels). You can buy it from Saga Market on the Overland route and at Purang on the Helicopter route at cheaper rates.
  • Camphor (for ease in breathing during the parikrama at low oxygen levels)

The consumption of any of the above-listed medicines is suggested to be taken only after doctor’s consultation.

Yes, you can carry an advanced Camera or DSLR during your Kailash Yatra. However, carrying a drone and taking pictures of Chinese officials is not allowed in the Tibetan region of the Kailash Yatra.

A large duffle bag with a cover for luggage and one small backpack to keep essentials during trekking, both of which are provided by us. It is advisable not to carry a trolley or an airbag for your comfort, as it is difficult to walk with it. It is better if you use the bags provided by us rather than carrying your own luggage bag.

You can carry any type of luggage bag till Nepalganj (in helicopter route Kailash Yatra) and Kathmandu (in bus route Kailash Yatra), after which we'll provide a good-quality duffle bag and backpack, each bag to each yatri will have a unique number for identification. After receiving the bag, shift essential items from your luggage to TTT's gifted bag.
Carrying your entire luggage for further yatra is not advisable because there is a high probability of luggage getting mixed or misplaced in transit or customs check. Similar bags with a unique number help in identifying the bags belonging to the company and to whom they belong.

You must carry basic clothing like trousers, t-shirts, and woollen clothing, especially a sweater, thermals, a shawl, hand gloves, warm pants, multiple pairs of warm/woollen socks, etc. For a complete list of clothing essentials for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, reach out to our travel consultant.

Yes, you can carry dry fruits and other food items on the Kailash Yatra. Although three meals each day are included in your itinerary. You can also purchase some of the food items from local markets in Tibet and Nepal.

Cigarettes and tobacco are not prohibited, but it is not a good idea to bring them on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Firstly, Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar are pilgrimage spots, and secondly, your fellow travellers might not feel comfortable doing so. Avoiding such things at high altitudes is also advised because they may be harmful to your health, causing shortness of breath during trekking/parikrama.
