In a significant boost to spiritual tourism, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath distributed financial assistance of ₹1,00,000 each to pilgrims who completed the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in 2025. The distribution ceremony took place on March 17, 2026, at Lok Bhavan in Lucknow.
During the event, the Chief Minister personally handed over subsidy cheques and interacted with the devotees, reaffirming the state's commitment to supporting citizens in their spiritual pursuits.
Key Highlights of the Announcement
- Direct Financial Aid: A total of 555 pilgrims received the subsidy of ₹1 lakh each.
- Total Disbursement: The state government released approximately ₹5.55 crore directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
- Policy Milestone: The subsidy was previously doubled from ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000 under the current administration to offset the rising costs of the arduous high-altitude journey.
Promoting Spiritual Tourism
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasised that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is not just a pilgrimage but a symbol of India's ancient cultural heritage. He noted that the subsidy aims to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder the devotion of the people of Uttar Pradesh.
"Our government is dedicated to making sacred pilgrimages accessible and safe. By providing this financial grant, we aim to honour the faith of our citizens and encourage more devotees to undertake this once-in-a-lifetime spiritual journey." — CM Yogi Adityanath

Eligibility and Verification
- The Department of Religious Affairs (Dharmarth Karya) managed the rigorous verification process for the 2025 batch. To qualify for the grant, pilgrims had to meet several criteria:
- Domicile: Must be a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh.
- Completion Proof: Submission of a valid Yatra Completion Certificate, visa copies, and immigration stamps.
- Frequency: The subsidy is a one-time lifetime benefit per individual.
- Infrastructure for Pilgrims
The CM also highlighted the role of the Kailash Mansarovar Bhavan in Ghaziabad, which serves as a state-of-the-art transit hub for pilgrims. The facility provides high-quality accommodation and logistical support for those travelling to the Himalayas, further streamlining the pilgrimage experience.
Looking Ahead: Kailash Yatra 2026
The ceremony comes as preparations for the 2026 Kailash Yatra season (scheduled to begin in May) are already underway. With the reopening of traditional routes like the Lipulekh Pass and improved infrastructure at border points, the government expects a record number of applications this year.
