The revered Kedarnath Temple has achieved a remarkable milestone, crossing Rs. 300 crore in revenue within just 48 days of opening for the 2025 pilgrimage season. The temple, which opened on May 2nd, 2025, this year, has surpassed all previous records, welcoming over 11.64 lakh pilgrims till Thursday, with a daily average of 24,000 devotees taking the spiritual journey. This overwhelming response has generated substantial economic activity across multiple sectors of the pilgrimage ecosystem.

The sacred evening Ganga Aarti has resumed at the confluence of Mandakini and Saraswati rivers in Kedarnath Dham after a 12-year suspension, in a momentous spiritual revival, marking a significant milestone in the restoration of the holy shrine's religious traditions. The decision to revive this cherished religious practice came following directives from Uttarakhand Tourism Secretary Sachin Kurve, who instructed the temple committee to restart the evening aarti. Hemant Dwivedi, Chairman of the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, announced that the evening aarti is now being conducted daily by temple priests with the cooperation of the Shri Kedar Sabha.

Historic start for Char Dham Yatra: Uttarkashi welcomes over 3,60,000 pilgrims. The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarkashi in 2024 saw the highest number of tourist footfall, with over 3.6 Lakhs pilgrims visiting the famous Char Dham sites, Yamunotri, Gangotri, Badrinath, and Kedarnath, during the first 15 days of the Yatra. As reported by the Economic Times, 9812 pilgrims travelled to Yamunotri Dham, while 13,602 yatries visited the Gangotri Dham.

Char Dham Yatra is a prominent pilgrimage circuit for Hindus, yet pilgrims from other communities like Jains, Sikhs, and Buddhists take part in it. Two of the primary Char Dhams- Badrinath Temple and Kedarnath Temple witnessed 1.42 million and 1.65 million pilgrims in 2024 respectively. Altogether, a staggering tourist footfall of 4.8 million pilgrims was recorded for Char Dham Yatra, in the same year. Char Dham Yatra includes a visit to the four temples located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand—Yamunotri, Gangotri, Badrinath, and Kedarnath.

Uttarakhand is all set for Char Dham Yatra in 2025, the much-awaited Yatra of the year for Hindu devotees, beginning from 30th April, occurring alongside Akshay Tritiya (a Hindu spring festival). The opening dates for Kedarnath and Badrinath Temple is 2nd May and 4th May respectively.
