Shrimad Bhagvad Puran, one of the most important sacred scriptures of Hindu theology, mentions the Mansarovar Lake as part of the Panch Sarovar which also includes the Pushkar Sarovar, Pampa Sariovar, Narayan Sarovar and Bindu Sarovar. Mount Kailash is comparatively round in shape and the sources of the rivers Brahmaputra, Indus and the Ghagara start nearby.

Best time to visit

The best time to go on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is between the months of May and October. Indian government has certain rules and regulations that pilgrims must follow and it is important to find out the information before planning the trip. There are quite a few private operators who arrange everything required to make the Yatra as easy as possible.

The trek and the beauty of the place are not the only reasons to go on the Yatra. There are other attractions nearby as well.

  1. Gauri Kund offers pilgrims the wonderful experience of bathing in natural hot springs that have sprung in the region. It is the perfect way to wash away the tiredness and chill experienced during the Yatra.
  2. Yam Dwar is the starting point of the parikrama of Mount Kailash.
  3. Ashthapad is the bottom of the mountain and is considered very sacred.
  4. Tarboche is an essential part of Tibetan spirituality. The beauty of a number of prayer flags is something that brings peace to the mind.
