The temple's history goes back to 1577, when Guru Ram Das Ji dug up the holy tank. Guru Nanak Dev Ji started the Langar as a way to live out the idea of equality every day.

The walls of Jallianwala Bagh, where the tragic 1919 massacre happened, are a reminder of India's fight for freedom. The trip also includes a visit to Ram Tirath, an old site that is thought to be the ashram of Sage Valmiki, where the Goddess Sita went to hide and give birth to Luv and Kush. The Devi Talab Mandir in Jalandhar is a strong Shakti Peeth that has been around for more than 200 years. The Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum keeps the legacy of the "Lion of Punjab" alive from the 18th century.
