Once upon a time, during the holy era of the Mahabharata, the Pandavas searched for Lord Shiva to seek forgiveness for the sins committed during the great war. Saddened by the destruction and loss of life, Lord Shiva avoided them by taking the form of a powerful bull. When Bhima, the mightiest of the Pandavas, tried to capture the divine bull, Lord Shiva disappeared into the earth, and different parts of his sacred body emerged at five places in the Himalayas. The spot where his hump appeared became Kedarnath, one of the twelve revered Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
Situated beside the serene Mandakini River and surrounded by the snow-covered Garhwal Himalayan peaks at an altitude of 3,583 meters, Kedarnath Temple stands as a symbol of faith, strength, and devotion. Even during the devastating 2013 floods, when the surrounding region faced massive destruction, the temple remained standing, strengthening the belief of millions in its divine power. Today, Kedarnath continues to attract pilgrims and travelers from across the world who wish to experience spirituality amidst the majestic Himalayas.
