The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra starts in May and ends in September. You can go on the Kailash Yatra anytime during this time as each of the months have their own positive and negative points.
Many people prefer going in May for Kailash Yatra as it is the starting month but Parikrama may not happen if there is snowfall in March and April.
June is the month of summer holidays when people desire to go to the mountains, due to this reason June witnesses the highest number of pilgrims going on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from India. However one may get a sunburn during this time so it is advisable to take some precautions such as carrying good quality sunscreen, cap/hat, sunglasses, etc.
July to Mid August is the rainy season in the Kailash Yatra Region. Generally, no major problem happens during this time because fewer yatris plan to visit Kailash Mansarovar. However, many Shiva Devotees prefer Shravan month for going for darshan of holy Kailash Parvat and taking a dip in Lake Mansarovar.
September is the most pleasant time if somebody wishes to complete Kailash Mansarovar Yatra along with Mount Kailash Parikrama by trek.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in Tibet involves two parikramas. The 105km Parikrama of Lake Mansarovar is done by Volvo category bus and the 40km Parikrama of Mount Kailash is done in 2.5 days. Mount Kailash starts from Yamdwar and on Day 1 we cover 10km, on Day 2 we cover 22km and on the last day remaining 8km is covered.
Earlier Mount Kailash Parikrama used to start in May but in 2019 it started in June because snowfall happened in April also. At that time only first-day parikrama from Yamdwar to Dhirpauk was possible. June to September are the months when one can complete Mount Kailash Kora. Many people prefer September as the best month to go for Kailash Parikrama because the weather is preferable and there is less rush. The parikrama of Lake Mansarovar can be done in all the months from May to September
The rainy season in the Kailash Mansarovar region is from July to Mid August. However, the Kailash yatra is not much affected by the rain except for a few days' delay. This season sees a good number of yatris visiting Mansarovar jheel and Kailash Parbat which is the abode of Bhole Baba because it is the holy month of Shravana. Since there is no greenery in the area, rain showers last for only a few minutes. It is compulsory to carry a large raincoat.

There is only one challenge in this Kailash Yatra route which is the drive from Kathmandu to the Kyirong border. The road condition on this route is not very good, hence it takes about 8 hours to cover just 180km.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra takes place in summer from May to September, so during this time there is no snow in the area, hence you do not have to trek on snow. There is only one point from Dhirapuk to Dol Mala Pass on Day 2 of Mount Kailash Parikrama where one can find snow which creates problems in going uphills.
If you visit in May you can see glaciers around Mount Kailash, in case these glaciers start melting then the parikrama of Mount Kailash is sometimes stopped. The Kailash Parvat Parikrama might not be allowed in May if there is snowfall in the month of April.
Bad weather is unpredictable in Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. The major impact of bad weather can be seen only in the Nepal side and not in Tibet. It is advisable to take the necessary precautions required in such conditions.
The Heli route of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, generally between Nepalgunj and Hilsa, is a little bit affected by bad weather because the flight and helicopter might get delayed due to less visibility.
