The VISA issued for Kailash Yatra is a Group VISA that permits pilgrims to travel to only Kailash Mansarovar. The entire group enters and exits at the same time from Tibet. You won’t be able to travel to China with this VISA. 
On the Helicopter route, Hilsa is the Nepal-Tibet border and on the Overland route, Keyong is the Nepal-Tibet border where the VISA is checked by the Chinese Immigration Center and other immigration and customs processes take place. 

I have a Chinese VISA on my passport, can I go for the Kailash Yatra with that?

One cannot travel on Kailash Yatra without a Chinese VISA, Group VISA issued by the China embassy is required to go on Kailash Yatra. The VISA issued for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a VISA that is together for an entire group and is not stamped or pasted on each pilgrim’s passport. One embassy cannot issue two or more VISAs at a time. In case you have a Chinese VISA on your passport, first, it will be cancelled and then Group VISA for Kailash Yatra will be issued. After completion of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, you can reapply for a Chinese VISA

What is the process for NRIs to apply for Kailash Yatra?

The NRIs or non-Indian passport holders have to arrive in Nepal 3-4 working days before the Kailash Yatra starting date. On reaching Nepal, you will be issued a VISA On Arrival. There you have to submit your passport to the team member of Trip To Temples who will then apply for a Group VISA for the Kailash Yatra.

What are the documents required for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra VISA & Yatra Permit?

Trip To Temples assists the pilgrims travelling with them in the documentation process of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. The documents required for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra are the Registration form, Passport (minimum 6 months validity from Yatra date), Physical Fitness Certificate by an MBBS doctor (at least 1 month before Yatra date), PAN card, 4 colored photographs. 
If you have an Indian Passport and are willing to start your Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from Kathmandu then to enter Nepal, you will also be requiring your Voter ID card in addition to the above-mentioned documents.

 

Which country's VISA do we require and what is the duration of the VISA?

Nepal VISA is not required by a person travelling from India for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, and VISA issued by China is only required. An NRI or other country passport holder requires a Nepal VISA (on arrival)  as well as a VISA issued by China for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. 

The duration of the Tibet Group VISA for Kailash Yatra is 20 days, however, one has to exit from Tibet within 7 days from the date of entry into the country. The duration of the Group VISA cannot be extended. All members need to enter and exit Tibet at the same time.

 

What is Kailash Yatra Permit & Visa? Are they both the same things or different?

Kailash Yatra Permit and VISA are two different things required to travel to Kailash Mansarovar. Both, the Permit and the VISA get issued on a strict group basis, i.e. the entire group enters and exits Tibet together. VISA is a document required for any international travel.

Although VISA and Permit for Kailash Mansarovar are issued by the Embassy of China, it is different from the mainland China VISA. Kailash Yatra Permit and VISA are special permission issued by the Chinese Authority that allows you to travel only to the restricted area.

Kailash Yatra Permit for the group is applied 45 days before the Kailash Yatra date. The Permit is issued 7-10 days before the Kailash Yatra date. After the permit is issued, the next step is to apply for the Kailash Yatra Visa which takes 4-5 working days. Kailash Yatra Permit can be applied only via authorized travel agencies and not on your own.

 
Which type of VISA do we get for Kailash Yatra? Is it sticker pasted or stamped on the passport? Who issues the VISA for Kailash Yatra?

A staple VISA for the entire group is issued by the China embassy which is neither pasted nor stamped on the passport. The VISA for Kailash Yatra is a sheet of paper in which the name of each group member along with their nationality, date of birth, and passport number are mentioned.
For people travelling from India, the VISA is issued by the Embassy of China in Delhi and for people travelling from countries other than India, the VISA is issued by the Embassy of China in Kathmandu. Those who are NRIs or have Non- Indian passports must arrive in Kathmandu at least 4-5 days prior to the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra starting date.
