The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India route is conducted in two ways. The first option is to visit Kailash Mansarovar from Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand, the second option is to visit Kailash Mansarovar from NathuLa Pass in Sikkim.

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via Lipulekh Pass was conducted by trek, and it used to take about 24 to 25 days to complete the Kailash Yatra by this route. With the construction of the New road to Kailash Mansarovar, the duration of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra is expected to reduce to 19 to 20 days. The Manasarovar Yatra through Lipulekh Pass starts from Delhi. The yatries have to arrive in Delhi 3 to 4 days before the departure date for a Medical check-up.

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Via Lipulekh Pass In Uttarakhand​​​​​​​ is the official Government of India route, managed through Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) and the Ministry of External Affairs. The sacred journey begins from Delhi with medical tests, briefings, and documentation before traveling by road through Almora and Dharchula into the Himalayan region. From Dharchula onward, yatris experience a challenging yet spiritually rewarding trek through Budhi, Gunji, Nabi, Kalapani, and Nabidhang before crossing the historic Lipulekh Pass into Tibet. After entering Taklakot by vehicle, pilgrims continue by bus to Darchen, the base for the holy Mount Kailash Parikrama covering Dirapuk and Zuthulphuk. The yatra further proceeds to the divine Mansarovar Lake at Qugu for holy rituals and spiritual experiences before returning through the same route to Delhi, completing one of the most traditional and spiritually significant Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage circuits.

The sacred pilgrimage begins from Delhi, where yatris complete medical tests, documentation, and orientation before flying to Gangtok, Sikkim. From Gangtok, travelers proceed by road through 15th Mile and Sherathang near the Indo-China border, crossing the famous Nathu La Pass into Tibet using specially arranged government vehicles and support teams. The journey then continues across the Tibetan plateau through Kangma, Lazi, and Zhongba by bus and SUV, offering breathtaking Himalayan landscapes, high-altitude valleys, and cultural experiences before reaching Darchen, the base camp of Mount Kailash.
