- Varanasi Dashashwamedh Ghat
Varanasi Dashashwamedh Ghat
Dashashwamedh Ghat is the most famous and vibrant of Varanasi's riverfront steps, serving as the beating heart of Kashi's spiritual life. According to legend, Lord Brahma performed the Dashashwamedh (ten-horse) sacrifice here, giving the ghat its name and sacred stature. Every evening, thousands gather along its steps to witness the grand Ganga Aarti, a choreographed ritual of fire, chants, and devotion performed by priests as the sun sets over the Ganges. By day, the ghat buzzes with pilgrims taking holy dips, boatmen offering river rides, and vendors selling flowers and offerings. As one of the oldest and most sacred ghats in Varanasi, Dashashwamedh Ghat captures the timeless rhythm of faith, ritual, and river life that defines the eternal city of Kashi.
