Chinese Authorities Issue Comprehensive Advisory for 2025 Kailash Mansarovar Pilgrims, About What to Travel With or What Not to!

Published : 12-Jul-2025 02:44:06 PM

The Chinese customs authorities have issued an official notice regarding Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025, which mentions prohibited items and travel restrictions for pilgrims undertaking it and based on General Administration of Customs Announcement No. 470, outlining comprehensive guidelines to ensure smoother cooperation during their pilgrimage across the China border.

The Kailash Yatra travel rules for 2025 specify several categories of items that pilgrims cannot carry when entering Chinese territory. The China border restrictions for pilgrims include a complete ban on live animals (except dogs and cats), raw or cooked meat products, aquatic animal products, dairy products including raw milk and cheese, eggs and egg-derived products, and bird's nest products except commercial-sterile-canned varieties. Additionally, animal-derived oils, skins, raw wool, bones, teeth, horns, feeds, Chinese medicinal materials, and fertilizers are strictly prohibited.

Also, Fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh flowers, tobacco leaves, seeds, seedlings, and other reproductive plant materials are not permitted during the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in 2025. These restrictions form part of the comprehensive Kailash Mansarovar packing guidelines issued by Chinese authorities. The notice prohibits microbial strains, virus strains, parasites, veterinary biological products, animal carcasses, specimens, soil, organic cultivation media, genetically modified bio-materials, and other high-risk biological factors.

The Kailash Mansarovar travel advisory 2025 includes several important regulations as follows:

  • Luggage Limitations: Pilgrims' luggage cannot exceed 20 kilograms, with dimensional restrictions of 160 cm for the sum of length, width, and height. Rod-shaped and pole-shaped items are limited to 200 cm in length.
  • Sacred Water Restrictions: The water from Mapangyongcuo (Manasarovar) is strictly forbidden to be taken abroad by pilgrims and staff members.
  • Legal Compliance: All participants must refrain from activities that violate Chinese laws and regulations. The notice specifically prohibits illegal print materials, audio-visual products, and inflammable or explosive dangerous goods such as gas cylinders and lighters.

The official notice emphasizes that pilgrims found carrying prohibited drugs, including cannabis and heroin, will face legal consequences under Chinese law. The restrictions apply to both pilgrims and accompanying staff members. The guidelines specify that animals, plants, and their products approved by relevant administrative departments with proper quarantine certificates from official institutions of the exporting country or region are exempt from these restrictions when entering through approved channels.

Comprehensively, this comprehensive Kailash Mansarovar Yatra notice 2025 represents the latest effort by Chinese authorities to streamline the pilgrimage process while maintaining strict border security protocols. Travel operators and pilgrims are advised to review the complete list of prohibited items before departure. The announcement affects thousands of pilgrims who undertake the annual Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, one of the most sacred pilgrimages in Hinduism and Buddhism. The new guidelines are expected to reduce delays at border checkpoints and ensure compliance with Chinese customs regulations.

Trip To Temples recommends that pilgrims carefully review the Kailash Mansarovar prohibited items list before packing for the journey. The latest announcement serves as an official advisory for all participants in the 2025 pilgrimage season. The Chinese authorities have also indicated that these regulations are part of ongoing efforts to facilitate smoother cooperation during the pilgrimage while maintaining necessary security.
