Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has reaffirmed the state government's commitment to transforming Uttarakhand into the spiritual capital of the world, emphasizing that the Himalayan state is not only preserving its ancient religious heritage but also strengthening infrastructure to support pilgrims and spiritual seekers from across the globe.
Speaking at a public event, the chief minister said Uttarakhand's identity as 'Devbhoomi' (Land of the Gods) gives it a unique place in India's spiritual landscape. Home to revered pilgrimage destinations such as Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Haridwar, and Rishikesh, the state has long attracted devotees, yogis, saints, and international visitors seeking spiritual experiences.
Dhami noted that the government's long-term vision extends beyond religious tourism. According to him, efforts are being directed towards conserving temples, improving pilgrim facilities, expanding connectivity, and promoting Uttarakhand's cultural and spiritual traditions on a global platform.
The chief minister highlighted that modern infrastructure projects are being developed while ensuring that the state's ecological balance and sacred heritage remain protected. Improved roads, better accommodation, digital services for pilgrims, and enhanced disaster preparedness are among the initiatives supporting this vision.
He also underlined the importance of balancing development with environmental conservation in the fragile Himalayan region. Sustainable tourism, preservation of traditional culture, and responsible pilgrimage management remain key priorities of the state government.
Uttarakhand has witnessed a significant rise in pilgrimage tourism over the past few years, particularly during the annual Char Dham Yatra, which attracts millions of devotees. The government believes that strengthening facilities and promoting spiritual tourism can contribute substantially to the state's economy while preserving its religious identity.
Dhami said the state is determined to create an environment where spirituality, culture, yoga, meditation, and nature-based tourism complement one another. He added that Uttarakhand's ancient traditions and sacred geography provide a strong foundation for positioning the state as a leading global destination for spiritual exploration.
The government's vision aligns with ongoing efforts to enhance visitor experiences at major pilgrimage sites while encouraging year-round spiritual tourism across the state.
With its blend of Himalayan landscapes, centuries-old temples, sacred rivers, and globally recognized yoga traditions, Uttarakhand continues to strengthen its position as one of India's foremost spiritual destinations. The state government believes these efforts will help elevate its standing on the international stage as a center for faith, wellness, and spiritual tourism.
