The 136.1-km Ujjain-Garoth Highway in Madhya Pradesh has reduced travel time between Ujjain and Garoth from around four hours to 90 minutes, saving motorists approximately 2.5 hours. The four-lane, access-controlled stretch of National Highway 752D connects with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway through an interchange at Garoth.
According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the corridor will improve connectivity with Rajasthan and Gujarat, strengthen freight movement and provide easier access to Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple. It will also support pilgrim movement during Simhastha Kumbh 2028 and create opportunities for regional trade, logistics and industrial development.
How Much Time Has the Ujjain-Garoth Highway Saved?
The Ujjain-Garoth Highway has reduced the journey between the two cities to approximately 90 minutes. Earlier, motorists needed around four hours to cover the same route, resulting in a travel-time saving of approximately 2.5 hours.
According to NHAI's official video, motorists could also save six to eight hours on certain longer journeys. The improved road infrastructure allows vehicles to travel more efficiently across the region.
The Garoth interchange connects the corridor with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. This link improves access between the Malwa region and the wider national highway network.
Which Cities Will Benefit From the Highway?
The corridor will improve road connectivity to Ujjain, Indore, Ratlam and Dewas. Through the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, motorists will also gain better access to Kota, Delhi, Jaipur, Vadodara and Ahmedabad.
The additional route will help passengers travel between these destinations more efficiently. Freight operators will also gain better access to major markets across Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat.
What Infrastructure Does the Highway Include?
The four-lane, access-controlled highway features several structures to support traffic movement and road connectivity.

The 28 bus lay-bys allow buses to pull off the main carriageway and stop without disrupting moving traffic. Flyovers, bridges and underpasses also help vehicles navigate the corridor more efficiently.
How Will the Highway Improve Access to Mahakaleshwar Temple?
Ujjain attracts devotees from across India because of Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, one of Madhya Pradesh's prominent pilgrimage destinations. The expressway connection will make road journeys more convenient for pilgrims travelling from Rajasthan, Gujarat and other connected regions.
NHAI has described the corridor as important for facilitating seamless mobility during Simhastha Kumbh 2028. The improved route will provide an additional access option as Ujjain prepares to receive large numbers of devotees and visitors.

How Will the Highway Support Trade and Local Businesses?
The highway will strengthen freight movement between Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring states. According to NHAI's official video, improved expressway access will help agricultural and industrial goods reach major markets more efficiently.
Freight operators could also save transportation time and logistics costs. NHAI has identified opportunities for logistics facilities and industrial development along the corridor.
Furthermore, hotels, tourism-related businesses and transport operators that serve pilgrims and visitors could benefit from better access to Ujjain and nearby destinations. These improvements may encourage commercial activity and strengthen regional trade.
The highway will therefore support passenger travel, pilgrimage connectivity and freight movement while improving Madhya Pradesh's links with neighbouring states.
