Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga & Its Spiritual Significance

Located in the serene Nallamala Hills of Andhra Pradesh, Srisailam is not just a pilgrimage site; it is a rare cosmic junction where the divine energies of Shiva and Shakti converge. Lord Shiva is worshipped here as Mallikarjuna, while Goddess Parvati is revered as Bhramaramba Devi. According to the Shiva Purana, the story of Srisailam begins with a family dispute between Ganesha and Kartikeya over who would marry first. A disappointed Kartikeya moved to the Kraunja mountain in the south. To console their son, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati arrived here in the form of Mallikarjuna and Bhramaramba. Another local legend tells of the princess Chandravati, who offered jasmine (Mallika) garlands to the Lord, giving Him the name Mallikarjuna. It is believed that a glimpse of the peak of Srisailam hill can grant liberation from the cycle of rebirth. The spiritual aura, combined with the mist-covered hills and the flowing Krishna River, creates an atmosphere where faith feels tangible.
