The Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra 2026 is making groundbreaking records. In this season, the pilgrimage site has witnessed more than 30,000 inner line permits issued within 33 days of the yatra commencement, with 1,178 permits granted on a single day alone. The event signals that Adi Kailash is becoming one of India's most sought-after Himalayan pilgrimages rapidly.
Adi Kailash-Om Parvat Yatra 2026: By the Numbers
According to the Pithoragarh district administration, a total of 30,016 inner line permits were issued as of June 2, 2026. In comparison, 29,352 inner line permits were issued across the full season in 2024, and 36,526 in 2025. In the current scenario, pilgrimage authorities expect 2026 to set a record before the season closes in October.
Pithoragarh District Magistrate, Ashish Kumar Bhatgai, confirmed that around 28,000 pilgrims and tourists visited Adi Kailash and Om Parvat between May 1 and May 31 alone. This is an increase of more than 150 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Yatra Began May 1 with Adi Kailash Portal Opening
The Adi Kailash Yatra 2026 formally started on May 1 with a ceremonial flagging off from Dharchula, marking the start of the annual journey to the revered Adi Kailash, also known as Chhota Kailash. The portals of the Lord Shiva temple near the sacred Parvati Kund at Jolingkong were opened on the same day, welcoming the first wave of devotees into this remote border circuit.
Before the yatra's commencement, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) clears heavy snow from critical high-altitude stretches such as Gunji and Jolingkong, making the route accessible again after months of winter closure.
In 2026, Digital Permit Access Gets Improved
A significant development for 2026 is that digital infrastructure for pilgrims has been improved. The government has streamlined access through the KMVN and Uttarakhand eDistrict portals, allowing pilgrims to initiate inner line permit registration online. However, final in-person verification at the SDM Dharchula office remains compulsory.
Authorities have also issued a warning against fake permits, with strict legal action threatened against CSC operators found in violation. It is advised to obtain their inner line permits only through official channels.
