In the Mahabharata's golden age, the five Pandava brothers asked Lord Shiva to forgive them for their sins during the epic war. However, to test their devotion, the Mahadev transformed into a holy bull and hid beneath the ground. Different aspects of his divine form appeared in five holy locations, now known as the Panch Kedar, as the brothers pursued him. The navel (Madhya) of the Lord resurfaced at the sacred place of Madhyamaheshwar, turning this brilliant-green valley into a gateway to the divine.
The temple, which is thought to have been constructed by Bheem himself, is a masterpiece of ancient stone building situated at a height of 3,490 meters. The spectacular snow-capped peaks of Kedarnath and Neelkanth surround the area, and the air is filled with ancient legends. Every step pilgrims take in the lush, rhythmic forests of Ransi and Gaundar feels like they are walking through a storybook. The trip doesn't finish at the temple; a quick ascent to Budha Madhyamaheshwar rewards the soul with a breathtaking view of the Himalayas reflected in beautiful lake waters.
