The Spiritual Significance: The Jasmine Lord and the Bee Goddess
The name Mallikarjuna is as poetic as the place itself. "Mallika" refers to the white jasmine flower, and "Arjuna" is a name for Shiva. Legend has it that when Kartikeya left his home in a huff after a small disagreement, Shiva and Parvati followed him to Srisailam to calm him down. Shiva manifested here as Mallikarjuna, and Parvati took the form of Bhramaramba (the Bee Goddess).
Because they chose to stay here together, this is considered one of the most powerful "Siddha Kshetras" in the country. The temple sits on a hill that feels like a fortress of faith, surrounded by a massive tiger reserve and thick woods. Pilgrims traditionally offer fresh jasmine—a symbol of complete surrender—and take a dip in the Patalaganga (the Krishna River) before entering the old stone hallways. It’s a place where the barrier between the human and the divine feels incredibly thin.

Overview
At Trip to Temples, we know that Srisailam is more than just a pin on a map—it’s one of those rare places in India where a Jyotirlinga and a Shakti Peeth live in the same courtyard. This 3-day Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga Yatra is a deep dive into the lush Nallamala Hills, where the Krishna River winds below the temple heights. It’s a journey for those who want to see Lord Shiva as the "Protector of the Forest" and Goddess Parvati in her powerful Bhramaramba form.
The best time to head out is from October to March; the jungle air is cool, and the humidity won't weigh you down during the darshan. From picking you up at the Hyderabad airport to navigating the forest roads, we handle the logistics so you can just focus on the bells and the jasmine-scented chants.

Frequently Asked Questions
Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga: Where Shiva and Shakti Reside Together (Andhra Pradesh)
When is the busiest time?
Maha Shivratri and the month of Karthika are incredibly crowded. If you want a peaceful darshan, try to visit on weekdays during the winter months.
Is this tour okay for elders?
Definitely. We keep the pace slow and use private cars to get you as close to the temple as possible. Srisailam is very senior-friendly if you avoid the heavy festival rush days.
What should I buy there?
Look for the local forest honey and sandalwood products. The temple is also famous for its vibhuti (sacred ash).
How do we reach Patalaganga?
You can either take a scenic ropeway ride (highly recommended for the views!) or walk down several hundred steps. If you have seniors with you, the ropeway is the best bet.
Is the road from Hyderabad safe?
Yes, it’s a good highway, but the last stretch through the forest is a ghat road. There are forest checkpoints, and the road is closed at night, so we always plan our travel during daylight hours.
What is the dress code?
Traditional wear is a must. Saree or salwar-kameez for women; dhotis, kurtas, or simple trousers for men. If you plan on doing a special Abhishekam in the inner sanctum, men might be asked to remove their shirts and wear a dhoti.
Why is Srisailam so unique?
It’s the only place in India where a Jyotirlinga (Shiva) and a Shakti Peeth (Parvati) are worshipped together in one complex. It’s considered the "Kailash of the South."
