Gayatri Jayanti celebrates the birth of Maa Gayatri, who is also the mother of all Vedas and is called Veda Mata. It is said that Sage Vishwasmitra first revealed the powerful Gayatri Mantra on this day to the mortal world.
As per stories, the sage, Vishwamitra, first got the seeds of the Gayatri Mantra and chanted it to receive Devi’s wisdom. Some people also believe that Goddess Gayatri, the Mother of the Vedas, appeared on the earth on this day. Devi Gayatri gave her devotees all spiritual and worldly happiness.
Gayatri Jayanti is considered an auspicious day from which you can start your spiritual practices or start a new event to bring good luck. Gayatri Jayanti is celebrated on the Ekadashi (11th day) of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) in the month of Jyeshtha as per the Hindu calendar, which usually falls in May or June according to the Gregorian calendar every year after the Ganga Dussehra.
The festival is celebrated differently in a few states of India with different rituals. As in South India, Gayatri Jayanti is celebrated on Purnima Tithi in the month of Sawan and holds an immense religious and spiritual significance. People worship Goddess Gayatri and chant the Gayatri Mantra.
