Dev Uthani Ekadashi, also known as Prabodhini Ekadashi, marks the awakening of Lord Vishnu after a four-month rest during Chaturmas. It shows renewal, devotion, and the beginning of auspicious events in Hindu tradition.
In 2025, Dev Uthani Ekadashi fall on November 2 (Sunday). Devotees observe the holy Dev Uthani fast to honour Lord Vishnu’s awakening and seek his blessings for prosperity and peace.
Lord Vishnu awakens after four months of divine sleep, known as Chaturmas, which begins on Devshayani Ekadashi and ends on Dev Uthani Ekadashi. During this period, he rests on Sheshnag in Ksheer Sagar, maintaining vast balance and refreshing creation.
The Ekadashi significance lies in the belief that all auspicious Hindu ceremonies, especially marriages, can resume after this day. It represents spiritual awakening and the restoration of cosmic balance.
There are such rituals for Dev Uthani Ekadashi, but people offer tulsi leaves, sweets, diyas and chant “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya.”
The rules for this fast are not so strict, but one should eat only fruits, milk, and nuts. The fast continues till Dwadashi Parana (the next day after sunrise).
This day also marks Tulsi Vivah- the divine marriage of Goddess Tulsi and Lord Vishnu. The ritual symbolises the beginning of the Hindu wedding season and spreading divine harmony.
