Situated in the picturesque Trans- Himalayas, Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar is a treat for the eyes of tourists reaching there from all over the world. Just looking at the serene lake Mansarovar next to the snow-capped Mount Kailash relaxes their minds and touches their soul. Since it is also believed that one can attain the state of Nirvana or salvation there, thousands of people plan a trip to Kailash Mansarovar every year, irrespective of the height to be traveled, harsh weather and uneasy pathways. But often, a lot of people feel confused to decide the best time to plan Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
So, if you are planning to go on a Kailash Mansarovar trip, know about the best time of the year to plan the trip around:
A trip to Kailash Mansarovar is suitable during the early summer months of May and June because people have a belief that in starting you can get direct blessings from lord Shiva. After the month of July till September pilgrims can go to possibly complete their three days parikrama. This is the ideal time to make a visit to this wonderful place because of a number of reasons, as detailed below:
The min temperature of the surroundings near Kailash Mansarovar stays approx. 5 to 10 degree Celsius during the early summer time, or post monsoon in India. This makes the tourists feel great to enjoy the heat from the sun, when being near to the mountains. Since the temperature dips to the lowest of the low in winters there, people are advised not to visit there in the winter months.
For further reference there are two links mentioned below by helicopter and overland yatra both.
It always feels great to enjoy outdoor activities, like trekking (in parikrama), yoga, pooja, hawan, holy bath in lake etc. near Kailash Mansarovar, which is only possible in good weather conditions of the summer time. This implies that you can have a great experience during the trip, when you plan it in the ideal time range.
A lot of pilgrims visit Kailash Mansarovar to cleanse off their sins, and to bring good fortune in their lives. They take bath in the Lake Mansarovar around the Mount Kailash, as per their religious beliefs. To fulfill their desires without any obstacle, they prefer to plan the trip in the ideal time of summer or post monsoon months.
You can also plan a family trip to the Kailash Mansarovar during summer holidays, which also lie in the month of June. Your children will enjoy the trip to the most, being there in the vicinity of the mountains and the beautiful Mansarovar Lake. Minimum Age is 10yrs.
During the ideal time, the sacred Saga Dawa festival is also celebrated in Tibet. This festival is known amongst Tibetan monks, people and even tourists to do certain religious activities and to do good deeds such as not killing animals for meat etc. So, by visiting Kailash Mansarovar during the ideal time, you can also get to enjoy this festival too.
The MIN temperature of Kailash Mansarovar lies approx. 4 to 15 w degree Celsius, and may even fall up to -2 degree Celsius around snowy trails. So, you are advised to carry woolen clothing with you, to stay healthy and avoid falling sick during the trip. It may become hard for you to find a good doctor in the mountainous terrains. So, be careful about this aspect of the trip as well.
Other than the time you plan to visit Kailash Mansarovar, the time you make bookings for the trip is also important. Ideally, it is best to book your tour at least two – three months prior to the date of the departure you plan. This is because thousands of Indian pilgrims visit there during that time, which may also cause price hike in the cost of accommodation in the best hotels there.
So, whether you wish to visit Kailash Mansarovar for a family trip, alone or for pilgrimage, you should keep in mind the best time to visit there, as detailed above. This will help you avoid feeling like the trip tests your physical endurance and mental health.

I have gone to Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with other three female family members in a conducted tour by Trip to Temple ( batch no-H1824) from 22 Aug 2018 to 1st September 2018. It was really a amazing trip, Lord shiva full filled my life long wish and we have such a nice and memorable yatra. Except initial hiccups at Nepalgunj due to bad weather for two days The complete yatra is completed quite comfortably without any tension. In all 68 (28+40) members were there in the group. The complete group members were very good to each other and moved as a cohesive group without any problem. Credit goes to the temple to trip team management for proper arrangement and nice cooperative behavior of all the group members. It was not easy to manage such a large group with some limitations but your staff managed it nicely and the service staff was humble and supportive. Though through out the trip we were well taken care by the trip organizer (Trip to Temple) but few points ( as stated below) are worth mentioning here to prove the point that all possible efforts were taken by the organizer to make the trip comfortable & enjoyable without any additional monitory burden on the trip members. 1- Throughout the trip ,hot food was arranged with sweet dish inspire of limited facilities available for them in all remote areas. Here it is worth mentioning that at Derapuk, hot night dinner and hot water was served in each room by your staff. 2- Good gesture by them by providing hot water and tent facility for ladies for bath at Mansarovar lake. 3- Arranging Pandit ji for group Puja at Mansarovar Lake after bath. 4- Gladly listening with patience and accepting the suggestions given by group members time to time, e.g.,creating "KMY Kailash Yatri2018" Watsapp group for better communication, listing group members in sub groups for taking helicopter trip etc. 5- During the trip attending courteously and patiently all the queries about us from our family members. 6- Last but not the least, inspite of two days additional stay at Nepalgunj in hotel due to bad weather, no additional money was demanded by them and the complete expenditure was absorbed by them. As stated above the trip was nicely organized by you, but as you know, one should always look for improvement. So keeping this in mind, I suggest that you may arrange for low power CFL/LED bulbs in place of regular high power filament bulbs at all places in your night halts (where electricity supply was provided by solar power). so that with the same available solar power lights can be provided in the rooms during early morning hours also. This will certainly make early morning activities much easier. I am sure you will take it as a suggestion and not as a compliant. In one sentence I want to record that I am fully satisfied after completing my Mansarovar yatra and Kailash three days parikrama ( though on horse) comfortably and safely with God grace and due to well organized trip & all trip members support and good wishes. With all the good wishes and blessings to all the group members and Trip to Temple team.
