The Adi Kailash & Om Parvat are located in the Kumaon region of the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, which is known as Dev Bhoomi (The Land of Gods & Goddess). They are considered to be one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimage sites dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to Manas Khand of Skanda Purana, the Yatra of Adi Kailash and Om Parvat holds the same prominence as the Yatra of Kailash Mansarovar. The description of the religious and mythological importance of this place is found in epic texts like Mahabharatha and Ramayana.
Situated on the Indo- Nepal border in Uttarakhand, Mount Adi Kailash is believed to be the resting abode of Lord Shiva, Mata Parvati with their children Ganesha and Kartikeya. It is the replica of Mount Kailash, hence is popularly known by the names Baba Kailash and Chota Kailash. It is said that Mount Adi Kailash was the first stoppage of Shiv Parvati Baraat that originated from the Kailash Mansarovar. The demon king Ravana got the blessing of 10 heads here.
According to the legends, eight mountains on the earth have an impression of Om- the auspicious symbol of the Hindu religion. Out of these eight mountains, only one has been discovered on the Indo-Nepal-Tibet border in Uttarakhand, which is the Om Parvat. The position of this mountain is such that there is India on one side, Nepal on the second side, and Tibet on the third side. The snow falling on the peak of this magical mountain takes the shape of Om which is visible only from India’s side.
